Weekend at the Jersey Shore

Strathmere Summer 2009A few weeks ago, Natalie and I spend some time at the Jersey Shore in Strathmere. The beach that was completely destroyed by hurricanes last fall, is beginning to be slowly rebuild and transformed. Large amounts of rocks were brought in to further fortify the beach and further along the beach a construction company is building some sort of a plumbing device with massive pipes that I’m assuming with further prevent floods and beach corrosion from future storms.

Katyn Forest Massacre

Katyn Forest MassacreRight at Exchange Place in Jersey City, literally a block away from our new building stands the Katyn Forest Massacre monument. In 1940, the NKVD, which later on became the KGB murdered thousands of Polish military officers, intellectuals, and civilian prisoners of war. According to Wikipedia, over 22,000 hidden graves were discovered, ironically by Nazi Germany in 1943.

4th on the Hudson River

NYC fireworks 2009Since I was 8-9 years old I’ve been watching the NYC Macy’s fireworks on the East River standing on the east side highway overpass somewhere along 14th and 23rd street in Manhattan. As I got older and moved out to Brooklyn, I’ve began watching them from off of various rooftops in Williamsburg and a couple of times of off the broken down piers of Williamsburg. Last night, with the Hudson celebrating its 400th birthday, (kind of ironic since the river existed before it was named) the fireworks were launched of off 4 barges along the Hudson River. We prepared by getting annihilated during the afternoon by Natalie’s home made sangria, took a power nap late in the afternoon and set out to the Hoboken Piers around 7pm in order to get a good viewing spot.

Night out in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Natalie VavrickaSwamped by work and other responsibilities, I haven’t had much time to update my blog. The amazing weather outside has also been keeping me away from my laptop screen over the weekends. However, I always keep my camera handy.
