Utilize What’s Around You as a Tripod
The other night Natalie and I were coming back from a friend’s house and decided to take a stroll by the water. It wasn’t the best night for taking panoramic shots of the lit-up city across the Hudson but I made the most of it. We wandered onto a surprisingly open pier and proceeded to the very edge to get the best vantage point. Not having a decent tripod on me I had to sort of hang my camera off the edge of the pier, and pry it against the gated fence in order to minimize the movement caused by wind.
Because of the lack of light around us, the 10 second+ exposures caused a lot of motion blur in some of shots I got. I kept my ISO at about 800 and did not want to risk adding noise at higher levels. However, some of the shots came out adequate for the most part. One day I’ll have to invest in a sturdy high quality tripod for my night shots. In addition, a infra-red shutter trigger would be pretty nice as well. Fortunately, I held on to the camera tight, didn’t drop it in the Hudson and walked away with a few nice shots.
