Web Hosting Search Dilemma

How does one find a reliable web host? Over the past 10+ years I think I’ve went through over a dozen. I have yet to read a single article that hasn’t been biased-steered towards choosing one over the other. The problem for me has always been either a lack of consistent customer support such as upgrading my current package with one that’s currently being offered or the lack of dependability.

I currently use Media Temple. I have to admit, the research I’ve done in going with Media Temple has mostly been in being impressed with their site. Unique interface, cool built for iPhone control panel, and of course competitive pricing…well somewhat. Their customer service is pretty helpful as well. Keeping my sites consistently up as well as having my IMAP email accounts properly working in Apple Mail… not so much.

When I started at Tisha Creative, I found that the company was also setup with Media Temple. The same problems seem to plague us at work. The search continues. Although, the more you get settled with a host, configure all sorts of databases, FTP and email accounts, the more complicated and difficult a move becomes.

Mosso Cloud Hosting provided by Rackspace is the latest hosting services I’ve been looking at for both myself and for Tisha Creative. The $100/month price tag though is pretty hard to swallow. I’ll probably hold off on switching for myself for now, however, investing in a new web host at work is inevitable with all of new advanced web applications we’re building. I just hope that if we end up going with Mosso, we won’t be disappointed.
